proverbs 23.

parents are such a bum. at least that’s what most teenagers think.

we think parents are stupid because they didn’t let us go to the coolest party of the year, or just to starbucks with your friends. they don’t give you enough allowance, they complain when you’re on the computer the entire time, and when you go and hang with your friends, they complain that you go out too often.

and especially for asian kids, our parents expect a lot out of us on school related things. they want us to have good grades, but at the same time have a handful of extra curricular activities that we have to achieve.

so when i read this chapter of proverbs verse 23 stood out to me.

it says :  “Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.”

i guess this verse was a great reminder for me to appreciate my parents, and secondthink the things that i usually think about them.

sometimes my parents can be abit aggravating, and if i think about it, it’s totally acceptable. they’re probably working really hard to help support the family (all the money we’re using to spend on clothes and food) and they’re stressed about things at work and they might just need time to relax. but we’re here nagging them about wanting to go out, or giving you more allowance. that’s honestly the last thing they’d want to hear about.

and things they say about using the computer, it’s all for our own good. they dont’ want our eyeballs to fall out of our sockets by using the computer too much. they say things and do things that sometimes annoy us, and as cliche as it seems, it’s really all for our own good. we just need to step back and look at the big picture.

so i advise you to take a step back and appreciate your parents, because in the end, they are the ones who truly matter (:
